It is very early in the morning on Valentine's day. I couldn't sleep and so I decided to look at some pictures on Eric's laptop...bad just started the tears again. This picture was taken at our twentieth anniversary party last summer by a dear friend. We renewed our vows that night. I can not even describe how much I love this man...thankfully, he knew I loved him.
Today, take a moment to tell your husband or wife how you truly feel about them. You may have another forty years to spend with your spouse or you may only have a few. Take advantage of the time you do have together so that you live with no regrets.

what a beautiful picture. I am so glad that you have those memories to treasure and that he knew how much you loved him. (and he loved you.) You are in my prayers this day.

Such good words....praying for you and the children. I think so many of us have loved our families even harder in these past two weeks. The truth is that the person you love needs to KNOW they are loved by you. I just spent an afternoon with a young mom and her kids yesterday, and we talked of you and your testimony and Eric's legacy that he left with his family. We're so thankful for you. I wish you wouldn't have had to go through what you did to be a teacher and testimony to so, Denise H.

I cannot begin to imagine your pain.

Lord, I pray for my sister in Christ now. May You comfort her in the ways that only You can right now. Give her the strength she needs to make it through her day. Place Your hedge of protection around her and her children. Let them feel Your love. Holy Spirit send your peace and presence into their home. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. This is such a difficult time for you and your children. There are no words that I can say that would help ease the pain but please know that you are being held in prayer.

Thanks for the update on the children too--now we cam pray specifically for each of their needs too...we know all about attaching here, so we will be in specific prayer for Lil hard for him to lose twice in his young life...

What a lovely picture! Thank you for sharing it dear one.

Eric was so blessed to have a loving and devoted wife like you. And a Christian at that!

Tears have a tendancy to cleanse, so let them fall. God knows every tear you cry. He holds them dear to His heart. <><

Continued prayers for you and the children.

Hugs from Germany,

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day! Know that you are loved and cherished by many many friends, family, and us bloggers!

This is a beautiful picture of the two of you. Memories are so precious but some come at such a cost. I am praying for your heart today, asking God to be your Love in Eric's absence and to watch over your every need. He knows each and every one. Praying for your kids too, that He protects their hearts and guides them through. I am so sorry for the immense pain this has brought to your family. May His presence be felt all over your family today and all the days ahead. He loves you all so much.

Love, Laurie in Ca.

Thank you for the wonderful reminder.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have prayed for you that the Lord would carry you through every wave of grief.

I cannot imagine losing a husband. I can relate to grief as I lost my sister to Lupus recently. It was very hard but the Lord sustained me through it all, even on the days I didn't feel like I could school my kids. God was gracious and faithful. He is mindful that we are but dust. I pray that your coming weeks will be marked by His incredible grace. Blessings to you and your family.

Today I have words. I bring my prayers but I also have words.

How often I wonder when I hang up the phone or leave the house to go run an errand if my husband knows how much I love him. Or if I am afraid of looking "gushy" by proclaiming it when I am just running to the gym.

You had the blessing of knowing and proclaiming love with the one God called you to cling to. I am humbled and convicted by your relationship.

I pray for you on this day of remembering L-O-V-E. The way God intended.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am changed. And I am praying.

Praying for you, dear sister.

Just over two months now since Sue was called home. Today wasn't so bad; we never used to bother as we had our wedding anniversary at the end of the month. But it would have been 25 years this year...

You know the Lord has His reasons, and that He sees all the tears - but they keep coming. All I can say is, I know how you feel.

May the joy of the Lord be your strength, the peace of God your comfort, and the Son of God your delight.

At the throne of grace with you and for you,

I had found you through Kendra's blog and have prayed for you since she posted the initial post about Eric's collapse. My heart has broken for you as I've read your subsequent posts and rejoice with you that Eric knew his Maker and grieve with you as a sister in Christ, wife and mother. I am so very sorry. The picture you posted is so beautiful and I hope it brings you some peace even as the tears continue to fall. My prayers continue to be lifted up for your family. With love from southern Oregon, Kelly

Dear Heavenly Father thank you so much for being our strength and comfort. We pray that you continue to give Heather the strength to rise everyday and to take care of her family and see your goodness. We thank you that you gave her Eric to spend part of her life with and to have experienced such love. We thank you Lord for the blessings that came from this marriage. Lord we also pray for the kids and that they will continue to confide in you and to grow in their faith and knowledge of your greatness and your promise. Lord we thank you that you are a husband to the husbandless and a father to the fatherless, what a gracious and loving God you are. I also thank you Lord for leading me to this blog so that we can be praying for Heather and her family. We pray that you would give Heather comfort and peace this evening and that she would feel your presence. We ask these things in your Holy Name.

HI Heather,
You don't know me, I saw your blog from a friend's site over a week ago. My tears and prayers have been with you and I know that God is holding you up. I know there's nothing I can say that will help, but I love hymns so I thought to share this amazing one. Will keep lifting you and your family up to the throne of Grace daily. love,

Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me flee unto Your side,
While the waters o'er me roll,
While the tempest still is high
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life be past;
Safe into the harbor guide,
O receive my soul at last

Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on You;
Leave, ah, leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me
All my trust on You is stayed,
All my help from You I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of Your wing

You, O Christ, are all I want;
More than all in You I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick, and lead the blind
Just and holy is Your name,I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin am I,
You are full of truth and grace

Grace so full with You is found,
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within
Can I doubt your love for me,
When I trace that love's design?
By the cross of Calvary,
I am Yours, and You are mine

I found your blog linked to another adoption blog. I am very sorry that you have lost your husband. Of course, there are no words that are adequate, but the Lord is sovereign and I know that there is comfort in Him. We share respect for some Christian leaders, including my pastor, Douglas Wilson. Blessings on you and your children.

You and the kids have been in my constant prayers.

I just want you to know that guys cry too and I am no exception. I have been very moved by this blog and the courage and faith that you have demonstrated.

Although we never spent a lot of time together I always admired Eric (a fellow asthmatic military veteran who was only 6 months younger than me)and the memorial service made me take a hard look at myself, my attitudes and so forth.

I have conducted hundreds of funerals and memorial services (I lived and worked at a mortuary when I was in seminary) but this was the first one that ever made me feel convicted to be more diligent to redeem the time.

It is during times such as these that make me stop and ask, "LORD, what do you have in store for me next?"

I have been thinking about the Book of Ruth lately and recently watched a sermon series on it by Mark Driscoll ( The video introductions are lovely.

It is a reminder that we have a Goel(Kinsmen-Redeemer)and in Him we find hope when life seems bitter.

Grace & Peace,

we continue to pray for you and be encouraged by your 'looking to Jesus'! for each page we send many other prayers are going up to the father on your behalf! I think you put the sunshine into little cowboys face!!!! May you look into the face of each child and smile each day, (and cry I am sure) knowing that they are small representations of the love you and Eric had. It sure is hard to know the words to use to comfort you in such a deep time of sorrow. I know that I can have confidence in the Holy Spirit to comfort you and counsel you.

Dear Heather: I often wake with you and the children on my mind. In fact, you all are hardly ever far from my thoughts and conversations with the LORD. We are sisters in Christ so the burden and grief is shared as so many have testified. This is a wonderful thing in our eyes.

I shared your story with 2 women at church today. One is losing her eyesight and the other lost her husband a few months ago. Both are quite a bit older than you and were struck by your circumstances. Now you have 2 more sisters to pray for you.
I was reading Psalm 42 the other day and though I should love to write the whole thing out it would take too much space. You know which one I mean, don't you? "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?..." But here is where my soul rose in prayer for you..."Deep calls to deep at the sound of Thy waterfalls; all Thy breakers and Thy waves have rolled over me. The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; and His song will be with me in the night. A prayer to the God of my life..." Thank God that with Paul you can say, "we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed, perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed..." because "Like a shepherd He will tend His flock; in His arm He will gather the lambs, and carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes." Yes, weep and grieve and show us lots of pictures of you and Eric. How blessed of God you were and are Heather. Thank you for ministering in the midst of your sorrow.
