12 Weeks

Oh, the wonders of being pregnant!
It has been 15 years since this body of mine has carried a little one but it didn't take long for me to be reminded of all those quirky things that happen to your body when hosting a growing baby.

It is finally the end of my first trimester and have officially enjoyed six days of nausea free living. I have carried four other pregnancies and it was only with Becca, my first, that I dealt with morning sickness. Of course, with her it was all day sickness. It was so bad that they gave me suppositories to keep even water down for 16 weeks.
So, I was "thrown for a loop" when I found myself constantly needing to head back to bed to keep from getting to personally know the workings of my toilet. But, the nasty stomach was nothing compared to the cloud of "blah" that settled over me.
Thanks to that surge of hormones I had a "who cares" attitude for just about everything.
I am still struggling a bit with those feelings but keep reminding myself that this just the direct result of the hormones surging through my body.
And, honestly, the reminders that my body is doing what is should be doing is rather reassuring.

And, another great side effect of the "who cares" attitude is that when things start falling a part around you you just don't worry as you might have under other circumstances.
For instance, Miss M and Daisy started classes this past week and we found ourselves down to one vehicle. Our white mini van has bit the proverbial dust and so we are left with the suburban as our only means of transportation.
This means that we all pile in the car on the days that we need to go to those classes and drive Phil to work. We then sit at McDonalds or Starbucks for two hours and wait for the class to start. Then, we wait around to pick up Phil after work. Phil's work and the classes are over a half hour away so it seems rather silly to keep going back and forth.
But see? I don't really care. I am exhausted by the end of the day but what can I really do about it? Until we can find the right car at the right price we will have to continue this pattern.
So, there is an upside to being so nonplussed about life.

Tired anyone? I must say that I was tired when I was in my 20s having babies. I am even more tired now in my 40s. Whew! But, I feel a bit more energy coming back as I head into the second trimester.

And, last, to wrap up this blogspot about my pregnancy I wanted to share my excitement on finding a wonder midwife in our area that will be helping me birth our little one at home.
I am so excited to find someone that is a Christian and understands my philosophy of birthing.
Now, I need to find a Doctor who will understand my desire to have a home birth but will take care of our needs if we must head to the hospital in the case of an emergency.

So, here's to being back in the land of the living!
I sure hope to have this blog updated more often and I know I will have some pictures to share of our summer happenings and upcoming family camp.

How exciting!! I didn't have any morning sickness w/ my first three and then suddenly was sick for 13 weeks with my 4th. So worth it. So very worth it!
Why do you have to find a doc who will support your decision to home birth? Our plan if we had to transfer was to just show up and take whatever doc was available (since hospital patients pretty much have to do that anyway). I saw how my sister was treated when she was transferred from home. No thanks.

What a sweet picture. You are just behind me in due dates. I'm due the beginning of Feb 2011. I'm also 41yo (and a new grand-mama) and also having a home birth (Lord willing) We've done 1 birth in an Army Hospital, 4 births at regular hospitals, 3 home births and one road side delivery :-0 It's been a wild ride.

I never have either morning sickness but with this baby I had 3months of all the time sickness:/ But now it's gone - yippeee!!

Anytime, any age is a precious time to be having a blessing from the Lord.

I'm so happy for you! You are so blessed! I just had a baby in April on Easter! I was 41 now i'm 42. My youngest child is 15 so it was 15 years for me too! You will start felling better soon. I cryed and thanked the Lord God when I saw you were pregnant. I started reading your blog just after your first husband died and it has been amazing to watch the grace of God in your life. Keep looking up, I'm praying for you.
BIG HUGGS!
Blessings, Diane.

It has been soooooooo looooong since I've checked in on you. So glad things are going great with the new one coming. Awesome to hear of another older home birthing mom. I just had my 6th this summer at 40. What a blessing for Phil to have a child so late in life, he/she (?) will be such a blessing. You'll probably be like us, like grand parents, spoiling this little blessing. The house looks awesome, so glad for this change for you all as well. Can't wait to hear the birth story!
