What Have We Been Up To?

There has been a lot going on in the Davis family. Last week was incredibly busy for us. I just could not find time to write...at least on the blog. I have been working on getting a couple of songs ready to publish. This is something that I have wanted to do for years but didn't think I could for some reason. So, for the past couple of weeks I have been writing the music out and then working in the studio creating a recording of the songs. We sing one of the songs in our church and have a couple of other churches now interested in the music. It's just another area that is keeping me extra busy.
Here are some other things that we have been up to...

The above picture is in the waiting room at a local hospital. Miss M and I were in the delivery room for the arrival of the newest addition of our close family friends. Boo and Goose spent the evening waiting...in the waiting room!
We have a different March Madness that we "celebrate" around here. We have lots of birthdays. These incredibly big cupcakes were for Lil' Cowboy's 9th birthday celebration.
Miss M also celebrated a birthday this month. She is excited to be six months closer to getting her drivers license...she reminds me daily. Yikes!
Every day this past week was incredibly busy but this weekend? We seriously had one or more events going on every day. I was just trying to keep up with my kids. Friday we had a birthday party and Lil' Cowboy had a Pinewood Derby with his Awana group.
Saturday we spent the day with two families up at Daffodil Hill. It was quite a windy road up there but the daffodils were beautiful. Actually, the best part was being with friends.
Mr. Peacock spread his beautiful feathers.

I am such an amateur photographer...but I thought I would include a couple of my favorites from our trip up the hill.

One of our friends who was with us on the hill is a photographer and teaches photography (Jeff Bradshaw photography). He allowed Miss M to use one of his cameras and basically gave her a mini lesson. He also took this photo of our family.
The next day was a day I look forward to every week. It was the Lord's day which means corporate worship, good food, and great fellowship. After spending the day with friends we headed over to a local church for a Newsboys concert. I will admit...I am a fan. A new friend of ours was able to get us comp tickets and so the older kids and I (plus a friend) all braved the crowds and enjoyed the evening. It was long...three bands playing for a good one and a half hours before the Newsboys even hit the stage at 10pm. By the time those three groups were done I felt older than my forty-some-odd-years. But, then the Newsboys came out with new lead singer Michael Tate, formerly of DCTalk and fellow classmate at Liberty. The music was awesome and the Word of God was preached. What praise filled that auditorium.
Even so, my earplugs came in handy!

This single mom stuff is incredibly exhausting. Someone once asked me how I get it all done. Right now it is all about taking one step at a time...just do the next thing. This past weekend I could do no other. I hate it when there is no margin (as a friend recently told me) in life. But, sometimes life just gets carried away and you have to just go with the flow. I do everything I do for the kids. I don't want them to grow up saying that mom fell a part after dad died and we didn't do much of anything. I want them to be able to look back to this part of their life here at home and see that there are as many pictures taken as were taken when Eric was here. I want them to have as many memories of me doing things with them as when Eric and I did things with them. I want them to say about me what they say about Eric...he did everything with us and he loved life.
So, I jump in the pool now (okay, well, in the hot summer). I take hikes with them. I drop whatever I am doing to go see their latest creation. I swing with them and I read to them. Life is short...but can be truly sweet if we just live it to it's fullest.

Encouraging Heather. Love the idea of you swinging with your babes. : )

Jeff is an incredibly nice guy and {no surprise} took a gorgeous picture of you all. I love the richness of the colors.

Hope you have a great week!

Love,
Rebecca

It's hard even when you have older children and you're doing it alone. I don't know how long you've been widowed but if it's been less that a year, you're doing quite well.

My husband died 3 years ago and I have 6 kids also, the 3 youngest are adopted from China and Vietnam. So we are like in many ways. I'd love to know more about you and your family but I have screaming children right now.... UGH!. My blog is There's Always Room For One More and on my Thursday, April 2 post there's a story about us that was in the local paper.

Heather,
As hard as it is doing so much with/for the children, it will be worth it. I lost my father at 12. Mom had 6 of us, one only 6 months old. It is only now as a mother that I have an idea how hard it was for her. She had no energy left for the fun stuff just getting through every day stuff was hard. Talk about Eric, keep his pictures out.. The effort will be remembered by the kids.
